A BBC article on urban crowd sourcing: US cities are encouraging the public to report problems using smartphone apps, to help municipal governments improve services, e.g. fixing potholes, removing graffiti, or repairing street lighting.
We are doing some of this too. For example, Ang Mo Kio Town Council has an app, iConnect@AMK, for iPhones (http://bit.ly/N6AiX3) and Android phones (http://bit.ly/KNJ0bG). Residents can report defects, and also see what others have reported, and what the Town Council has done about it.
Singaporeans can and should take a much more active part in helping to look after our city and environment. - LHL
